Ed Wright (GBR) will go into the 2015 Finn European Championships in Split as the new World No 1. His third place at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyeres last week was just enough to reach the top spot, replacing Ivan Klakovic Gasic (CRO) at the top of the board.

Five years ago Wright finished as runner-up to Kljakovic Gaspic at the 2010 European Championships, also in Split, and is looking to turn the tables this time around.

“I am sailing better than I ever have and am feeling confident going into the Europeans where we might get some good wind. Split is also where I gained my first Finn Gold Cup medal after Jonas [Høgh-Christensen] and Emilios [Papathanasiou] to take bronze only 18 months sailing the Finn, way back in 2006.”

After Hyeres he said, “I did some changes in my gear set up this week and it seems to be faster. Now I am ready to go to the Europeans with the aim to win it.”
